Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors!

Make a Difference

We are once again collecting mittens,  gloves, hats and socks for mitten tree. We divide these items up for Walcott and Durant schools and other charities. They can be dropped off at the church office. We hope to put tree up in December. If you are uncomfortable shopping, cash donations marked for Mission Tree are acceptable.  We will get items for you.
If questions please let Diane Young or Sandy Barclay know.

 Reminder:

Food Pantry continues to need personal hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, bar soap, deodorant. Also as always need paper products such as paper towels, toilet paper. Thank you again for you continuous support of this worthy mission!

 MISSIONS UPDATE:

The Missions Committee would like to thank everyone for their continued support during this very challenging time. We plan on supporting In-Gathering this year with both school kits and hygiene kits. Our original goal was to create 50 school kits, but thanks to your very generous donations (which were designated for school kits) we have been able to increase that to 70 kits. Due to the increase in the number of kits we do need people to sew another 20 bags. If you are able to help , the bags that need to be completed are in the office and instructions are in the bags. We will also provide 15 to 20 hygiene kits.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO COLLECT POP CAN TABS! Joyce Hudson took our first box full to Ronald McDonald house in Iowa. Please also don’t forget the Buffalo Food Pantry! They are in need of hygiene products (toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and toilet paper). THANK YOU AGAIN FROM THE MISSIONS COMMITTEE!

As many of you know, our Missions Committee and other volunteers have made several beautiful prayer shawls. Each shawl itself has been prayed over and blessed. A prayer shawl can be worn as a comfort during an illness or recovery, after a loss during bereavement, in times of stress and as a ministering gift given to others. When our Missions Committee decided to create shawls, each individual crafter’s prayers were intertwined within the knitted or crocheted design, so anyone who receives a prayer shawl, and wears it around their shoulders, will feel wrapped in God’s comfort, love, healing, power and strength.

A prayer shawl is a very special gift, and if you would like to have one, or you know someone that is in need of one, please call Sandy Barclay (563) 424-0891, or call the church at (563) 284-6213. We are willing to meet you at the church and you can pick one out. We have lots of shawls to choose from. What a lovely way for you to share God’s love with someone.

We are going to support the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City by collecting pop tabs. Boxes will be placed in the church for you to put your tabs in. Little things like pop tabs can make a big difference! Help support families and children through our Pop Tab program by collecting and donating the aluminum tabs you pull to open soda, soup, and other cans. Our Pop Tab program is one of the most popular way to get kids involved in learning to help other and donating to charity.

Mission update: Volunteers are needed to see face masks for local communities. We would love to have Calvary church get involved. Attached are links to patterns. We can also have some printed in the church office to pick up. Unfortunately Joann fabrics is all out of kits. Elastic is very hard to come by. If you find some 1/4 to 1/2 inch in your stash and can share call Sandy Barclay or Diane Young and we will make arrangements to get it. Also Sandy has a lot of thread if anyone needs that. It is a good way to use up all your cotton scraps you have.
You can use bias tape on the sides 36 inches long to make ties instead of elastic.
Finished masks can be dropped at church office or Sandy's porch
If you have questions contact Diane Young.
Thank you for your help in this time of need.

 USHERS!

We are in need of ushers! Please prayerfully consider helping with this ministry. Men and women are invited to join the team! There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in Social Hall. We need 3 every Sunday and we would like you to serve a month at a time. The 4th position is filled by a confirmation student. The duties are also posted on the board.

In addition to this, we would like to ask you to help the ushers. At the end of each service, they collect the attendance sign-in sheets. When everyone in your pew has signed the sheet, would someone tear it off and leave the edge of it sticking out above the red book to make it easier for the usher’s to collect them. We thank you in advance for helping with this.
