Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors!

Announcements - Online Worship Service

 Dear Church,

I greet you in the strong name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I thank
my God every time I remember you, in all my prayers for all of you, I
always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the
first day until now...
Friends, as many of you are aware the Covid case counts are truly spiking
in our community, our state and even our nation. As good stewards of caring
for our neighbor, as we watch the hospital numbers increase at such a
staggering rate, we will do our part as well to help slow the spread. This
means *we will continue with online worship services at least through the
remainder of November, and we will continue to evaluate the situation as we
go*. We are taking meeting decisions meeting by meeting at this point, in
order to do our best to continue in ministry and also care for our
community. Ad Board will be meeting on Zoom on Monday evening, the 16th, as
will the denominational transition team.
*As of Wednesday, November 11th, a mask mandate has been issued for all of
Iowa United Methodist Churches* during any in-person meetings, worship
services or other gatherings of any sort. This means that even with social
distancing we will be required to mask when we are in person. Anytime we
gather in person for any reason, we will continue to greet one another from
a distance, take temperatures, social distance, limit the entrances we use,
and sanitize tables and chairs. We ask that even if your committee gathers,
but you know you are at risk, don't come. I can set up a conference call or
zoom meeting for any meeting as is needed. Please... if you are at risk for
Covid-19, please stay home, and care for yourself. If you know you have
been exposed to Covid-19, please follow quarantine guidelines, honoring
your neighbor, and do not come.
Please know how grateful I am for each and every one of you. At this point,
Covid-19 has affected at least one person we all know, and in many cases,
more than one. Please continue to follow the guidelines as offered to us,
and also, take care of your mental health. Call your friends, and the
people you are used to seeing, send notes to one another, make a game out
of it, go for a walk, enjoy the beauty of the earth, spend some extra time
in prayer and study. Enjoy listening to the Lord, or learning the voice of
God. He is speaking, and he has not abandoned us. Jesus promises to always
be with us.
With that, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you, may he look upon you with favor and grant you
peace. I'll see you online on Sunday!
Peace be with you,
Pastor Joy
Joy Mitchell

Due to the current number of COVID 19 cases in our county, church services will be online only until further notice.

We are beginning a six week series in Philippians this Sunday, September 13 entitled Uncommon Joy.

Remember if you cannot attend church in person but would like to receive communion, please reach out to us and we will deliver to your home.  Call 563-284-6213 or email

You are Invited to a Prayer Meeting

Who: All are welcome, whether you are comfortable praying out loud, or just want to listen and pray silently. If you have a 90 year old relationship with God, or you haven’t yet met God yet, YOU are welcome.
What: Prayer Meeting
Where: Calvary UMC front lawn (inside with inclement weather)
Why: We are all in great need of God, and God invites us to come to him with our praises, our joys, and our struggles and concerns. God invites us to speak and God invites us to listen.
When: Every Tuesday from Noon-1:00pm  11-22-20

Thank you to Jean Johnson for continuing Sunday School studies over this period of time.       I’ve heard it was enjoyed by your regular attendees and many who do not get to attend Sunday School on a regular basis. Your dedication has been tremendous. Thank you for keeping everyone close to the study of His word!

REMINDER: With the Covid-19 affecting so many families in the Quad Cities, the food pantry is as busy as ever or moreso! Our donations are still needed. Even though the church is not open, you can still stop by and drop off your donations. Current needs include cake mixes and juice, however anything is welcome! The office is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and some Fridays from 8 to 12 noon. Just stop by, ring the bell and we will let you in to drop off your donations. If you would like to call first, the number is 284-6213.

With everything going on in these days, it’s more important than ever to remain faithful in your giving. We’re seeing a good response to our first ever online service. We may be able to come up with an online way for folks to give their offerings, but the short-term answer is one we’re all familiar with: Mailing a check. I’ve mentioned this before, but left off one important piece of information. An ADDRESS!! Please mail checks to: CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, P.O. BOX 130, WALCOTT, IA 52773

Mission update: Volunteers are needed to see face masks for local communities. We would love to have Calvary church get involved. Attached are links to patterns. We can also have some printed in the church office to pick up. Unfortunately Joann fabrics is all out of kits. Elastic is very hard to come by. If you find some 1/4 to 1/2 inch in your stash and can share call Sandy Barclay or Diane Young and we will make arrangements to get it. Also Sandy has a lot of thread if anyone needs that. It is a good way to use up all your cotton scraps you have.

You can use bias tape on the sides 36 inches long to make ties instead of elastic.
Finished masks can be dropped at church office or Sandy's porch
If you have questions contact Diane Young.
Thank you for your help in this time of need.
