Introduction to our pastor

Dear Calvary UMC,

What an amazing gift it is to serve the Lord our God. Each gift God has given us is to bring the Kingdom of God to the world. Scripture makes it clear that each gift is to be used together with the body to grow and share the love of God with those around us, so that they will meet Jesus, get to know the love of God the Father, and experience the power of the Holy Spirit working within and through us, to reveal the Kingdom. We are better together. I look forward to learning what gifts make you shine, and draw the best out in yourself as well as others.

My husband, Weston, and I live in Springdale, IA a small township of about 45 homes just east of West Branch Iowa. We are nestled neatly into an acre and a half of property. We have a handful of Chickens, and a wonderful dog named Boots. One thing you will learn about me is that I have a true and genuine faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, and am so grateful for the love of God our Father. One of my favorite things to do is to pray for and with people. If you are ever in need of prayer, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I know our God is real.

An Iowa Native, I was raised in Ames, and I love this great state of ours! I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2015, served First UMC in Indianola as the Associate Pastor for one year, and then served as the Senior Pastor at Mt Vernon UMC from 2016-2020. I am now delighted to come to Walcott and see what God is up to at Calvary UMC, and where God would like to take us next together. It’s always an adventure, and I can’t wait for the ride! I look forward to meeting you very soon!

Peace be with you,
Rev. Joy Mitchell
